Biography

Mel Robson's work explores the relationship between utilitarian objects and personal narrative. It has evolved from an interest in the histories, stories and associations embedded in everyday objects and the ways in which these objects can evoke memory and nostalgia. Imagery from the domestic landscape - maps, letters, sewing patterns, old wallpaper, photographs, documents etc – are applied to eggshell fine porcelain vessels. Sometimes the imagery is drawn from Robson's own past, and sometimes it is a response to the stories of others. They serve as narrative groupings referencing the tenuous and fragile ways in which we can access the past.

Mel Robson has exhibited extensively Nationaly and Internationally including the 4th World Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, South Korea and in the NCECA Exhibition (National Council on Education in Ceramic Arts) Ogle Cultural Centre, Louiseville Kentucky (both 2008); Australian Ceramic Stories (2008), Dubbo Regional Gallery; Twenty:Twenty (2007) Museum of Brisbane; Femme Domestique (2006) QUT Art Museum; and Pattern Recognition (2006) Object Gallery, Sydney.
