SEPTEMBER
ALFREDO & ISABEL AQUILIZAN and JOCAHIM FROESE in 'Kunstpavillion', Munich:
Erinnerungen (Memories) features work by artists Alfredo & Isabel Aquilizan and Joachim Froese that deals with notions of memory, migration and family. The exhibition features Froese's photographic series Portrait of my mother in company of Bahai, a model of the house in which Alfredo & Isabel lived with their family in the Philippines. Exhibition opens Thursday, 2nd Sep @ 7pm and continues until 26th September 2010.
JONATHAN KIMBERLEY in 'Cartographies of the Imagination': A free public forum presented by Flinders University School of Humanities in association with Flinders University Art Museum to explore the politics and aesthetics of map-making through the lens of contemporary arts practice. AUGUST
DADANG CHRISTANTO @ CALOUNDRA REGIONAL ART GALLERY, CALOUNDRA: On 2 October 2009 Unesco Recognised Javanese Batik as an item of intangible cultural heritage of humanity. To celebrate this the Caloundra Regional Gallery brings together two Batik collections: one of Batiks from the North Coast of Java and the other now held as memory and represented in the recent paintings by contemporary Indonesian artist Dadang Chrisanto (now a resident in Brisbane). JUAN FORD exhibits new work in 'Present Tense: An imagined grammar of portraiture in the digital age'; 'Understory' curated by Dr Troy Ruffles at the Devonport Regional Gallery until 20th June and 'The Outsider' curated by Michael Brennan at the Trocadero, Melbourne. Juan has also just completed a commissioned work for the Westin Hotel in Sydney.
ALFREDO + ISABEL AQUILIZAN @ 4A Gallery, Sydney: Split over two exhibition periods and featuring artists from Australia and the Asia region, LAST WORDS is a group exhibition that explores language, knowledge and communication in an age of cultural diversity and globalisation. KEN and JULIA YONETANI + Sunrise 21 + The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre (Mildura, Australia): Ken and Julia Yonetani will use this residency to further their practice of collaborating with scientists to produce outstanding works engaging with the fragility of the environment. Their recent collaboration with the Australian Institute of Marine Science resulted in the work Sweet Barrier Reef, which represented Australia at the 2009 Venice Biennale. The Water Memory project focuses on water as life-force and carrier of the 'memory' of all living entities -past, present and future. Sunrise 21's expertise in advanced digital mapping and the Freshwater Research Centre's work on water quality and ecology will enable a research engagement ranging from the microscopic to the macroscopic 'big picture'.
JULY
JANET LAURENCE & JUDITH WRIGHT @ QUT ART Museum (2 July - 3 October 2010):
A Generosity of Spirit: Recent Australian Women's Art from the Queensland Univerisity of Technology Art Collection exhibition presents some 30 key works acquired over the last four years including Janet Laurence & Judith Wright. Generosity of Spiritsimultaneously acknowledges the generous philanthropy of former Queensland artist and QUT alumnus Betty Quelhurst (1919-2008), and the work of selected Australian women artists. The Betty Quelhurst Fund was established in the acquisitions program enabling the QUT Art Museum to purchase major works by leading Australian mid-career women practitioners. The exhibition will travel to Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide from 22 October to 17 December 2010.
DADANG CHRISTANTO has been selected to exhibit new work for the inaugural launch of the Setouchi International Art Festival "100-Day Art and Sea Adventure". The festival opens on 19 JUL 2010 (Marine Day) and continues until the 31 OCT 2010 with works being shown across eight different islands in Japan. Christanto also gave a performance on 10 January 2010 as part of the 2009/2010 JogJakarta Biennale, Indonesia. The Biennale continues until March 2010.

JUDITH WRIGTH @ the NGV, Melbourne: 'Conversations with the mother' (2004) a video by Judith Wright is currently showing at the NGV alongside luminary artists such as Rembrant, Munch and Hockney. Curated by Alsion Holland, 'Love Loss and Intimacy' explores how the human emotions of desire, grief and affection tie the observer to the observed. The exhibition continues until 25th July 2010.
JUNE
JUAN FORD curates 'Light Play' - a dynamic exhibition featuring mirrors, reflective surfaces and lights, all of which interact with elements of the NGV collection - as part of the Children's program at the National Gallery of Victoria. Exhibition runs from 2nd June until 7th November 2010.
JOACHIM FROESE on Radio National: You may be interested to hear photographer Joachim Forese's interview from Radio National's program 'The Book Show'. A big reader since childhood, he shared that passion with his mother, Brigitte. There was always lively discussion about writing and ideas in the family home, often with reference to Brigitte's well stocked bookshelves. But in 2006, events forced him to start thinking very differently about his mother's books. When Brigitte Froese was diagnosed with cancer, he began to photograph her library as a way of preserving her memory. Click to download the interview.

JUDE RAE in ART COLLECTOR: In the current issue of Australian Art Collector Magazine, painter Jude Rae reveals her growing interest in sculpture. She also talks about her fascination with fire extinguishers and just why she finds portraiture so daunting.
KEN YONETANI in ONCE REMOVED: Campbelltown Arts Centre is launching the group exhibition 'Once Removed' on Friday 28th May @ 7pm. The exhibition will feature the Ken Yonetani's major installation 'Sweet Barrier Reef' that showcased in the 2009 Venice Biennale. JUAN FORD in Wynne Landsacpe Prize 'Nobody is Necessary' by Juan Ford has been selected for this year's Wynne Landscape Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 27 MAR - 30 MAY 2010. The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscpae painting of Australian scenery in oils or watercolours or for the best example of figure sculpture, by an Australian artist.
FEBRUARY

KEN YONETANI will give a performance in Federation Square (Melbourne) on 19th, 20th and 21st FEB 2010 as part of the Sustainable Living Festival. Yonetani's performance (in collaboration with his wife Julia) will echo the 1969 happening by John Lennon and Yoko Ono entitled 'The Bed-in'. Yonetani's performance will aim to raise awareness about the current global warming issue.
CARL WARNER and JOACHIM FROESE are both selected to exhibit in 'The state we're in: Contemporary Queensland Photography'. The exhibition is curated by Gordon Craig and runs from the 29 JAN - 11 APR 2010 at the University of Queensland Art Museum.
