Janet Laurence is a Sydney based Australian artist who works in mixed media and installation. Her work has been included in major survey exhibitions, nationally and internationally.

Laurence’s work explores the poetics of space and materiality through the creation of works that deal with our experiential and cultural relationship with the natural world. Laurence’s work echoes architecture while retaining organic qualities and a sense of instability and transience. Her work occupies the liminal zones or meeting places of art, science, imagination and memory. Profoundly aware of the interconnection of all life forms, Laurence often produces work in response to specific sites or environments using a diverse range of materials. Alchemical transformation, architecture, light and the natural world are all underlying themes in her work.

Major public art commissions include: The Memory of Lived Spaces (2007) Changi T3 Airport Terminal, Singapore; Waterveil (2006) CH2 Building for Melbourne City Council; Australian War Memorial (2003) Hyde Park, London; Translucidus (2002) Quantas Lounge, Sydney International Airport; In the Shadow (2000) Olympic Park, Homebush Bay Sydney; Veil of Trees (1999) Sydney Sculpture Walk, Art Gallery Rd; 49 Veils (1998) windows for Central Synagogue, Bondi; and Edge of the Trees (1994) Museum of Sydney in collaboration with Fiona Foley.
