Jacinta Giles

Jacinta Giles' artistic practice captures the terrain of our image-saturated culture through experimental photographic techniques and collage. Her work challenges our preconceived notions of popular cultural imagery and uncovers hidden aesthetic and expressive content beyond the primary subject. Giles's extensive archive of photographs—of the moving images that fill our screens—provides rich material for her process, which involves detaching and recombining narrative images to create new, thought-provoking compositions. Through her photographic collages, Giles disrupts traditional ideas of context and meaning, inviting viewers to engage with their own interpretations and perceptions. In a digital age where images bombard us constantly, Giles's work offers a fresh perspective on how we interact with and interpret the visual world around us.

Giles has a doctorate from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Australia, and has exhibited in Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, South America, and the United States. She has also been a finalised in both national and international art awards and her work is held in both private and public collections.
